Twenty minutes into the future

Back at university I used to spend a lot of time in an RPG called Cyberpunk 2020. In this future set game the world (i.e. the USA where the game was set) is significantly different to the present day with widespread economic collapse (a-la Bruce Sterling's Distraction), corporate dominance and highly sophisticated technology such as voluntary replacement limbs / eyes / etc.

I had always considered that some of the things in CP2020 were likely to come to pass - later rather than sooner. 2020 always seemed too close for the sort of envisaged radical change.

Some days I'm not so sure.

Highly complex robotic replacement limbs.

Economic dangers.

Unstoppable corporations.

Eight years and counting...

Don't worry, the world is going to end in just under eighteen months anyway.

In fairness, the prediction is for it to end as we know it. Maybe your fantasy-world counts as that.

The Mayans say the world is going to end soon?

I'm much more likely to believe they knew what they were talking about than the rapture crowd...
